XRP has dropped below the critical $1.30 support level as widespread cryptocurrency market weakness, leveraged trading liquidations and delays to an XRP Ledger network upgrade increase selling pressure on the digital asset.
The cryptocurrency has lost approximately 15% of its value over the past month, with technical indicators pointing to continued weakness after several unsuccessful attempts to recover key price levels.
On October 27, XRP opened trading at $1.307 before declining to an intraday low of $1.289. The token was trading around $1.294 in the reported market snapshot, representing a daily decline of approximately 0.9%.
The latest downturn has pushed XRP below several important moving averages, raising concerns about its near-term price outlook as traders monitor potential support around $1.20.
XRP Breaks Key Support After Weeks of Declining Prices
XRP entered October trading near $1.50 but failed to maintain that level, falling below it around October 7.
The cryptocurrency subsequently tested support near $1.33 on two occasions during the middle of the month before renewed selling pressure pushed prices lower.
The $1.30 level, which had provided support throughout much of October, has now become an important resistance area as XRP struggles to regain upward momentum.
Technical indicators suggest that sellers continue to dominate the market.
A closely watched moving average stands near $1.37 and has begun to flatten, while the Relative Strength Index (RSI) remains slightly above 40.
An RSI reading at this level indicates weakening price momentum without necessarily suggesting that the asset has entered oversold territory.
The combination of declining prices and subdued momentum suggests that XRP could face additional pressure unless buying activity strengthens.
Broader Crypto Market Decline Triggers Liquidations
Weakness across the wider cryptocurrency market has contributed significantly to XRP’s recent losses.
Following an unsuccessful attempt to break above $1.39, XRP retreated toward $1.30 as selling activity intensified.
Reports indicate that more than $300 million in leveraged long positions were liquidated during the broader market downturn, adding to volatility.
Liquidations occur when traders using borrowed funds can no longer maintain the collateral required to support their positions, triggering forced closures.
These transactions can accelerate price declines when large numbers of leveraged traders are exposed to the same market direction.
The second half of October saw repeated pressure around important support levels, with forced selling adding to the challenges facing XRP buyers.
The broader decline has also reduced investor willingness to take additional risks in digital assets, making sustained price recoveries more difficult.
XRP Ledger Security Concerns Add to Market Uncertainty
Developments involving the XRP Ledger have introduced another source of uncertainty for investors.
In early October, the network disclosed two software vulnerabilities, including a payment engine issue involving XRP overflow and a transaction validation flaw.
The vulnerabilities were addressed through the xrpld 3.4.1 software release, while a separate network amendment encountered delays during the validator approval process.
The amendment, known as fixCleanup3_4_0, includes technical improvements affecting multiple components of the XRP Ledger, including asset vaults, lending functionality and token-related operations.
Originally expected to activate on October 23, the amendment’s timetable shifted after validator support temporarily fell below the required approval threshold.
The setback highlighted the challenges associated with implementing protocol changes through the network’s decentralised governance process.
XRP Ledger Upgrade Rescheduled for November 4
The fixCleanup3_4_0 amendment requires support from more than 80% of trusted validators for 14 consecutive days before activation.
With 35 validators in the default trusted group, at least 29 must maintain their approval throughout the required period.
On October 21, support briefly declined to 26 validators, forcing the approval countdown to restart.
Backing subsequently recovered, with a reported 31 of 35 validators supporting the amendment following the interruption.
The earliest activation date has consequently moved to November 4, provided the necessary approval threshold remains intact.
The delayed amendment is separate from the broader XRP Ledger lending protocol, which requires its own validator approval before activation.
Although the technical developments do not necessarily indicate an immediate threat to the network’s operation, uncertainty surrounding protocol upgrades can influence investor sentiment.
XRP Price Outlook: Key Support and Resistance Levels
Market participants are closely monitoring several technical levels that could influence XRP’s next price movement.
The immediate challenge for buyers is reclaiming $1.30, which previously acted as a support level but has become a near-term resistance area.
A sustained recovery above this threshold could bring $1.37 into focus, followed by the $1.39 region where an earlier breakout attempt failed.
However, continued weakness below $1.30 could expose XRP to additional downside pressure.
The next significant support level stands around $1.20, an area that previously attracted buying interest in late August.
If that level fails to hold, traders may shift their attention toward the psychological $1.00 threshold, followed by support near $0.90.
These levels represent technical reference points rather than guaranteed price targets, and market movements will depend on broader trading conditions.
What Could Drive XRP’s Next Major Move?
XRP’s immediate outlook remains closely linked to developments across the cryptocurrency market, investor demand and progress on XRP Ledger upgrades.
A recovery in broader market confidence, reduced liquidation activity and sustained buying above $1.30 could help stabilise prices.
Successful activation of the planned network amendment may also remove one source of technical uncertainty, although it would not guarantee a market recovery.
Conversely, continued weakness in major cryptocurrencies and renewed leveraged selling could place additional pressure on XRP’s remaining support levels.
With the token trading below important moving averages and momentum indicators remaining subdued, investors are watching whether buyers can defend the $1.20 region or whether the latest decline develops into a deeper correction.
