Cardano Activates Van Rossem Hard Fork as Market Watches for ADA Recovery

ADA Recovery

Cardano has successfully activated the Van Rossem hard fork, marking one of the blockchain’s most significant protocol upgrades and introducing a new era of on-chain governance. While the network enhancement strengthens Cardano’s technical capabilities, investors are now looking for signs that the upgrade can translate into broader adoption and renewed momentum for ADA.

The hard fork went live on July 18, upgrading the blockchain to Protocol Version 11. The transition was completed with minimal disruption, including a brief 10-minute pause in block production and no reported impact on user funds.

The upgrade introduces faster execution for Plutus smart contracts, new built-in functions, revised cost models and enhanced node security. These improvements are expected to reduce development costs and improve efficiency for decentralized applications, potentially supporting expansion across Cardano’s decentralized finance (DeFi), non-fungible token (NFT) and real-world asset ecosystems.

A defining feature of the Van Rossem upgrade is its governance process. It is the first major Cardano hard fork to be proposed, debated and approved entirely through the network’s Voltaire on-chain governance framework. The proposal received backing from delegated representatives (DReps), stake pool operators and the Constitutional Committee, with more than 77% of DReps and 52% of stake pool operators voting in favor.

Despite the successful rollout, ADA has yet to see a sustained price recovery. The token was trading near $0.1702, up around 2.4% over the past 24 hours, although broader technical indicators continue to point to weak market momentum. The 50-week exponential moving average remains below the 200-week EMA, while the Relative Strength Index (RSI) sits at 34, suggesting bearish conditions. The Average Directional Index (ADX) also indicates that the prevailing downtrend remains intact.

Market participants, however, continue to show optimism. ADA futures open interest stands at approximately $193 million, with a long-to-short ratio of 2.84, indicating that many traders are positioning for a potential rebound.

Analysts note that Cardano’s long-term performance will depend less on the protocol upgrade itself and more on its ability to attract developers, launch new decentralized applications, expand total value locked (TVL) in DeFi and increase daily network activity. Future developments, including the Ouroboros Leios upgrade, Hydra scaling solution, Mithril enhancements and Pyth oracle integrations, could further strengthen the ecosystem.

Meanwhile, blockchain analytics platform Santiment reported growing accumulation among large ADA holders. Wallets holding between 100,000 and 100 million ADA now collectively control more than 25.6 billion tokens, the highest level recorded since February 2023, suggesting continued confidence from major investors despite recent market weakness.
