Rohun Vora, Alias Frank DeGods, Steps Down as CEO of DeGods NFT Project Amid Turbulent Times

May 2025:  After three years in charge of one of Solana’s most well-known NFT collections, Rohun Vora, better known in the crypto community as Frank DeGods, has formally resigned as CEO of the DeGods NFT project.

Announced on Monday via X (formerly Twitter), Vora’s resignation ushers in a new leadership era with @0x_chill and @pastagotsauce set to take over—though their real-world identities remain unknown. Since its inception in 2021, DeGods has grown from a niche blockchain experiment into a multimillion-dollar community-driven ecosystem.

Vora reflected on the restless nights spent cultivating DeGods and its sister collection, y00ts, in his poignant announcement.  He emphasized that his leaving is unrelated to any legal issues and thanked everyone for the friendships and experiences learned.  “No investigations are underway.  He responded directly to rumors by writing, “I’m not on the run.”.

Persona Pressure and Public Scrutiny Spark Departure

Vora hinted that his internet persona—Frank DeGods—had begun to overshadow the project itself. While acknowledging the criticism he received, he pointed out its often performative nature. “Sometimes the hate was overdone,” he remarked, attributing some of the backlash to the sensationalism that fuels social media engagement.

Vora’s statement hinted to a need for personal reinvention and the conviction that DeGods might flourish under new leadership free from the distractions of his divisive public image, but he did not provide a precise explanation for his resignation.

Leadership Change Follows a Series of Setbacks

Vora’s departure comes after a difficult phase for the project.  DeGods’ contentious switch from Solana to Ethereum in 2023, which was meant to avoid the repercussions of the FTX crash, received conflicting feedback.  The community was shaken by a significant drop in floor price and criticism of the artwork during the highly anticipated Season 3 debut later that year.

The situation was made worse by the early 2024 merger of parent studio DeLabs with Dust Labs and the separation of co-founder Kevin Henrikson (Kevin DeGods).  These modifications were perceived as attempts to reorient the project’s operations and strategy.

September 2024 brought the release of the DEGOD token, meant to simplify the project’s ecosystem. Yet, debates over its governance and utility extended well into 2025, highlighting deeper rifts within the community.

Looking Ahead: A New Chapter for DeGods and Vora

As DeGods transitions into new hands, questions linger about the project’s direction and stability. However, Vora expressed confidence in the incoming leaders and optimism about the project’s future. He also hinted at his next move, suggesting a possible pivot into artificial intelligence.

With his departure, Vora closes a defining chapter of Web3 history—leaving behind both a trail of bold innovation and contentious controversy. What lies ahead for both DeGods and its former figurehead remains to be seen, but one thing is clear: the NFT landscape is once again on the brink of reinvention.
